Version 2026-10-29. Draft for legal review.
The short version
- Scam Snoop is a guide only. It gives an automated assessment of what you show it. It is not advice, a guarantee, an inspection or a verification of any seller, item, message or business.
- You make your own decisions about whether to buy, sell, pay, reply, call or click, and you are responsible for them.
- Results can be wrong or incomplete, including scores, price estimates, "Looks clean" results and warnings.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss from using Scam Snoop or from any transaction you make. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer laws of the country you live in.
- Scam Snoop is independent. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any marketplace, bank, courier, government agency or brand it mentions.
- If you think you've been scammed, contact your bank straight away. Snoop shows the official reporting services for your country.
1. About us
Scam Snoop (scamsnoop.me) is operated by [Business name] (ABN [ABN]) of [Address], Western Australia, Australia ("we", "us", "our"). It is available to people around the world. These terms apply to the Scam Snoop website, web app and related tools, including the "Help me buy this" guide (together, the Service). Scam Snoop is an automated tool. Its results are produced by computer programs, including artificial intelligence, without a person reviewing them.
2. Accepting these terms
By using the Service you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service. You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
3. A guide only
3.1 The Service gives general information to help you think about whether a listing, message, email, voicemail, link, phone number or document shows common warning signs of a scam, and how a price compares with typical prices.
3.2 The Service is not:
- financial, legal, consumer, investment or professional advice;
- an inspection, valuation, appraisal or authentication of any item;
- a background check or verification of any person, seller, buyer or business;
- a guarantee that any listing, item, seller, message, payment method, phone number, link or website is safe, genuine, legal or lawfully owned; or
- a substitute for your own checks, an in-person inspection, or official checks such as a vehicle finance register, a stolen-phone check or a company register.
3.3 Scores, labels (including "Looks clean", "Check first", "Walk away" and "Spam, not a scam"), ticks, warnings, price ranges, suggested offers, messages, checklists, receipts and buying steps are automated suggestions only.
4. Your decisions
4.1 You alone decide whether to buy, sell, pay, meet, reply, call back, click a link or share information, and on what terms. You are responsible for those decisions and their consequences.
4.2 We are not a party to any transaction between you and anyone else. We don't hold money, handle payments, deliver items or resolve disputes between buyers and sellers.
4.3 Always inspect items in person where you can, pay only through protected methods, and use the official checks we point you to.
5. Results can be wrong
5.1 The Service uses artificial intelligence and automated rules. It can make mistakes, miss warning signs, flag genuine listings or messages, misread images, audio or text, and give outdated or inaccurate price estimates. It may not recognise products, brands or scams that are new.
5.2 Results depend only on what you provide. We can't see anything you don't share, and we may not be able to open some links or websites.
5.3 A "Looks clean" result means we found no warning signs in what you shared. It does not mean the listing, message or website is safe. A warning does not mean anyone has committed fraud, and you must not treat it as an accusation against any person or business.
5.4 Our checks cover some countries in more detail than others. Local checks currently cover Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand and Canada. Elsewhere, only our worldwide checks apply.
6. Third-party services, lookups and links
6.1 To check links, domains and phone numbers, the Service may use third-party sources such as domain registries, Google Web Risk, VirusTotal, URLhaus and phone-number reputation services. These sources can be wrong or out of date. Naming them doesn't mean they endorse or partner with us.
6.2 The Service links to third-party websites, retailers, marketplaces, official registers and reporting services. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, prices, products or practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.
7. Your rights under consumer law
7.1 Wherever you live, you may have rights under consumer protection laws that can't be excluded or limited by agreement. Examples include the Australian Consumer Law, the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, consumer laws in the European Union, the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, and consumer laws in Canadian provinces and US states (Non-excludable Rights).
7.2 Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any Non-excludable Right. Where a term would do so, it doesn't apply to you to that extent.
7.3 Where the law lets us limit our liability for breaching a Non-excludable Right, our liability is limited, at our option, to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
8. Limitation of liability
8.1 Subject to clause 7, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", and we exclude all warranties, representations and conditions not set out in these terms, including about accuracy, completeness, reliability or fitness for a particular purpose.
8.2 Subject to clause 7, and to the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable to you or anyone else for any loss or damage of any kind, however caused (including by negligence), arising from or connected with:
- your use of, or reliance on, the Service or any result, score, price estimate, message, checklist, receipt or other content it produces;
- any transaction, payment, meeting, call or communication between you and any other person;
- any scam, fraud, theft, loss of money, faulty, stolen or counterfeit item, or personal injury connected with a transaction;
- any third-party website, source, register, retailer, marketplace or link; or
- any interruption, error, delay or unavailability of the Service.
8.3 Subject to clause 7, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of money, profit, revenue, data or opportunity.
8.4 Subject to clause 7, if we are liable to you despite the rest of this clause, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim and AUD $50 (or the equivalent in your currency).
8.5 Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law where you live doesn't allow to be limited.
9. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, you indemnify us against any claim, loss or cost arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the Service, or any content you submit that infringes someone else's rights. This clause doesn't apply to you as a consumer where the law where you live doesn't allow it.
10. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the Service to help commit, plan or disguise a scam, fraud or any unlawful act, or to test how to avoid detection;
- use the Service to harass, defame, publish or target any person, including by posting our results as an accusation against them;
- upload content you have no right to share, or that contains malware;
- scrape, overload, reverse engineer or interfere with the Service, get around its limits, or use it to build a competing product; or
- present our results as an official verification or endorsement.
We may suspend or limit access if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms.
11. Your content and feedback
11.1 You keep ownership of the text, screenshots, links, emails, recordings and documents you submit (Your Content).
11.2 You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use Your Content only to provide the Service to you, including by processing it with our service providers as described in our Privacy Policy.
11.3 You are responsible for having the right to share Your Content. Avoid submitting other people's personal information, passwords, card or bank details, or identity documents unless they are needed for the check. Blur them out of screenshots where you can.
11.4 If you send us feedback or a report through the Service, you let us use it to improve the Service, without payment to you.
12. Free use, limits and changes
12.1 The Service is currently free. Each visitor can run a limited number of full checks (currently 3) in any 24 hours, counted by internet connection. People sharing a connection, such as a household, workplace or mobile network, may share that allowance. When it runs out, Snoop may offer a quick check without AI instead.
12.2 You must not try to get around these limits, for example by using many connections or automated tools.
12.3 We may change the limits, require a free account for more checks, or offer paid features. Any paid features will have their own terms, shown before you pay.
12.4 We may change, pause or stop the Service or any feature at any time.
13. Independence and other people's names
13.1 Scam Snoop is independent. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any marketplace, bank, payment service, courier, telco, government agency or other organisation it names, and naming one doesn't mean that organisation has reviewed or approved our results.
13.2 Brand names and trade marks belong to their owners. We use them only to identify what a message or listing claims to be, or where to report or check something.
13.3 When Snoop says a message "isn't from" a brand, it means the links, numbers or wording don't match that brand's official ones in what you shared. It doesn't mean the brand has done anything wrong.
14. Intellectual property and changes to these terms
14.1 The Service, the Scam Snoop name, the Snoop character, and all designs, text and software are owned by or licensed to us. You may use them only to use the Service.
14.2 We may change these terms. Updated terms apply from when they are posted, and we'll show the date at the top and ask you to accept them again when the changes are significant. If you keep using the Service, you accept the updated terms.
15. Affiliate links and advertising
Some links to retailers and marketplaces may be affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. The Service may also show advertising. Affiliate arrangements and advertising never change a score, warning or result.
16. Scams and emergencies
The Service is not an emergency or official reporting service. If you have lost money, contact your bank or card provider immediately. Report scams to the official service in your country, which the Service shows with each result. If you feel unsafe, call your local emergency number.
17. Governing law and disputes
17.1 These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia.
17.2 If you use the Service as a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts of that country if its law allows. Nothing in this clause takes away a Non-excludable Right.
17.3 Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue.
18. General
If any part of these terms is invalid or unenforceable, it is read down or severed, and the rest continues. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.

Version 2026-10-29. Draft for legal review.
The short version
- We use what you paste, upload or record (text, links, screenshots, emails, PDFs, voicemails) only to run your check. We don't keep it afterwards.
- Checks run on our own computers. If our own system is unavailable, a check may be processed by an AI provider (Anthropic). We don't sell your information.
- We don't ask for your name. We keep a few records without names: that you accepted our terms, feedback you choose to send, and counts of how the Service is used.
- Don't upload passwords, card or bank numbers, or ID documents. Blur them out of screenshots.
- Wherever you live, you can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, at privacy@scamsnoop.me.

3. How we use it, and our legal reasons
We use personal information to:
- analyse what you submit and produce your result, price check, lookups and buying guide (to provide the Service you asked for);
- open links you give us, look up links and phone numbers, and compare prices with other sellers (to provide the Service you asked for);
- keep the Service secure, prevent misuse and fix problems (our legitimate interest in running a safe, fair service);
- improve the Service using feedback and totals (our legitimate interest); and
- meet our legal obligations.
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, these are our legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR: performing a contract with you, our legitimate interests (balanced against your rights), and legal obligation. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted (cross-context behavioural) advertising.
4. AI and automated results
4.1 The Service uses computer programs, including artificial intelligence, to analyse what you submit and produce scores, labels, warnings, price estimates and suggestions. These are made automatically, without a person reviewing them.
4.2 The AI normally runs on computers we control. If they are unavailable, a check may be sent to Anthropic's Claude service to process. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms and doesn't use it to train its models.
4.3 The kinds of personal information these programs use are listed in section 2: what you submit, details of other people inside it, pages opened from your links, and limited technical information.
4.4 Results are general guidance about a listing, message or link. We don't use them to make decisions about you, such as decisions about credit, accounts, services or eligibility, and they have no legal or similarly significant effect on you. You decide what to do with them.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the Service, and only as needed:
| Provider type |
Examples |
What they receive |
| Hosting and security |
Digital Pacific [, Cloudflare] |
Technical information and the content passing through the Service |
| AI processing (backup only) |
Anthropic (Claude) |
What you submit, when our own AI is unavailable |
| Link and domain checks |
Domain registries (RDAP), Google Web Risk, VirusTotal, abuse.ch URLhaus |
Web addresses from your submission. We look up existing reports and don't upload your files. |
| Phone number checks |
IPQualityScore |
Phone numbers from your submission |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or to help law enforcement investigate a scam where the law allows.
6. International transfers
We are based in Australia and our servers are in Australia. Some providers process information in other countries, including the United States. When we transfer personal information across borders, we take reasonable steps to protect it, including contract terms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum where they apply, and we handle it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
7. Security
We protect information with encryption in transit (https), access controls, limits on what we log, and by not storing what you check. No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we'll tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
8. Cookies and browser storage
We don't use cookies for advertising or tracking. The Service stores a few small items in your browser: that you accepted our terms, a random ID for that acceptance, your country choice, and a copy of the page so it opens quickly and works as an app. You can clear them in your browser's settings at any time. Our hosting and security providers may set cookies needed to protect the Service.
9. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
- ask us to correct it;
- ask us to delete it; and
- complain to us, and then to a regulator.
Because we don't ask for your name, we may need the random ID stored in your browser to find records linked to you.
Depending on where you live, you also have these rights:
- European Union and United Kingdom: to object to or restrict our use of your information, to data portability, and to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
- Australia: rights under the Australian Privacy Principles, and to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
- New Zealand: rights under the Privacy Act 2020, and to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
- Canada: rights under PIPEDA or your provincial law, and to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
- California and other US states with privacy laws: to know, delete and correct, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we don't sell or share it), without being treated differently for using these rights.
To use any of these rights, email privacy@scamsnoop.me. We'll respond within 30 days, or sooner if your local law requires it.
10. Children
The Service is meant for people 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has used the Service, contact us and we'll delete any records we can find.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. We'll show the date at the top, and significant changes will be highlighted in the Service.
